Discovering Cafes in Bendigo

Grounded

Location
Located in front of the Bendigo Museum, a small coffee shop that have an earthly style. It is along lots of different cafe and restaurant in View St. It includes a store that sells plants, kitchen utensils, candles and diffusers, and a lot more miscellaneous stuff which you can find at the back part of the cafe.

Space

The front part have an L-shaped bar which is a place for ordering for us and preparing area for them. It is only a small cafe that is why there is only one area to sit down inside; one bar along the window (refer above photo). But they do have lots of available tables and chairs outside. Because of the shop they have at the rear part, they give a kind of minimalist and scandinavian combination style.

Menu

Their coffee range and cookies are pretty cheap compared to other cafes. We ordered chocolate chip cookie and white macadamia cookie and they tasted so good especially for its cheap price. Grounded does not have lots to offer on their menu other than their coffee and few sweet course like cookies and muffin. They also use BioCup Art Series for their takeaway drinks which is a nice thing to do for our environment.

Finders Keepers

Location
This one is almost at the heart of Bendigo, along Mitchell St in CBD, near the Bath Lane and Hargreaves St. So if you brought your car, you can park at the parking space of the later. You can also check out heaps of shops around the area.

Space
Its a pretty dim space for me but they have lots of chairs compared to our first cafe. It is a very cosy place with a very minimal but nice interior. For me it is more like an industrial looking cafe. They have outdoor sitting too. Not only that but they also have an upstairs sitting, but that must be open occasionally.

Menu

They serve quite a load of breakfast menu. From french toast, omelette and sandwiches they do have plate of Atlantic breakfast or vegetarian breakfast. Salads, wraps and burgers are being serve as well. A great deal of choices for everyone.

El Gordo

Location

My all time favorite cafe is located in Chancery Lane along Pall Mall St in Bendigo CBD, this lane have cafe, restaurant, and shops in it. It is hidden and its quite shocking to find that this lane holds a lot of gems inside.

Space

First its just a small space that have 4 tables inside and maybe 3 tables outside. Recently they extended the cafe to accomodate more. Outdoor sitting is refreshing with plants hanging on the walls across. Haven't check the extension yet, it gives off modern bizarre look all in all.

Menu

Tapas is one of their specialty which sadly I haven't tried still. I always order the almond croissant which is so soft and melts in my mouth. They also have sandwiches and other breakfast menu with a Mexican twist.

Cortille

Location
A great location in the middle of CBD, near Coles so car parking won't be a problem. Its an 8 minutes walk from the Bendigo Station and near the bus stop as well. As its an easy access to everything, it is a nice stop over before roaming the city by feet.

Space

The first time I went here I already find it very interesting as the cafe have a mini van inside. That is also where you can pay your orders. This cafe have a bright and open design that can make your day light. Outdoor sitting is also available.

Menu

Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are here. Breakfast, lunch and oh, waffles which you can have a choice of designing it on your own. If you are worried about your little ones not finishing their food then check out their kid's menu.

Ex Lion Tamer

Location
The nearest one you can pop into from the Bendigo station, 4 minutes to be exact. A corner store in Mollison street but carpark won't be a problem. It is close-by the Bendigo Marketplace so you can use their carpark as well.

Space

The design is somewhat similar to Finders Keepers, it have this industrial but modern design. The difference is that this one is brighter and more relaxing. The big window might be the reason for that. You can see cars passing which can be entertaining sometimes. If you want to sit outside, lots of chairs are there for you. Rushing? Just order at their takeaway window then.

Menu
As the name itself, the design of the menu is excellent, which is the circus. Seafood, pork or chicken, salad or burger, Vietnamese, Japanese or Mexican deli, a great number of choices for you.
